Fast food

Inside the app

For lunch breaks, long drives and late nights

The drive-through is on your way home, and delivery is a few taps away. On your side, Quitzilla keeps three things: the reasons you chose, notes on the days that went off plan and a record of every stretch without fast food.

Reasons to Quit

  1. I choose meals I plan, not meals I grab!
  2. I want to eat dinner at the table, not in the car
  3. I'm done planning my route around the drive-through
  4. I want to cook a few meals I'm proud of

Sample reasons. Your own list can look completely different.

A second look before you order

The Fast Food habit comes with four suggested reasons. Keep the ones that fit, write more of your own, and pull up the list when your thumb is hovering over the order button.

New diary entry: an empty Thoughts & Notes field, the Relapse switch on, and $5, $10 and $20 buttons for how much was spent

Diary noteLate shift, empty fridge, and I grabbed a burger on the drive home. Stocking a few easy dinners this weekend.

When you end up at the counter anyway

Record it in the diary as a relapse. Your count restarts at the moment you set, the stretches before it aren't erased, and there's room for what you spent and what was going on: a long shift, an empty fridge, friends choosing the place.

Fast Food charts: nine abstinence periods against a 6-day average, the current 19-day stretch as the tallest bar with $152.53 saved, and a Spending chart of money logged at relapses, averaging $20

The long view

Lined up as bars, your stretches without fast food show the bigger pattern: one burger on a road trip ends a bar, not the whole row. Below them, the Spending chart collects what you logged at each relapse. Charts are part of Premium.

How do I use Quitzilla to stop eating fast food?

Add Fast Food as a habit, say when your last fast food meal was and roughly what those meals cost you, and pick a few reasons. Quitzilla does the counting from there: the days without fast food, the money you'd have spent on burgers and delivery, and a new goal each time you reach one. It's a habit tracker, not a diet app, so there are no calorie counts and no food lists.

Can I track junk food or food delivery instead?

Yes. Besides the Fast Food template, you can create a habit with any name you like, such as "Junk food" or "Late-night delivery". Only a relapse you log restarts the timer, so you decide what counts as one: a drive-through burger, a delivery order or a bag of chips at the gas station. Soda and Sugar have templates of their own if you'd rather track them separately. Two habits are free; for more, you'd need Premium.

How is the money I don't spend on fast food calculated?

Count everything you'd usually pay: lunch near work, a combo meal on the drive home, delivery fees and the tip. Enter that per day, week or month, and Quitzilla turns it into a running total that grows with your time without fast food. When you first set up Quitzilla, it also shows what you'd keep after one month, one year and five years. Add a reward, say a chef's knife, give it a price, and your savings flow into it until it's ready to purchase.

What if I end up ordering fast food again?

Make a diary entry for it and flag it as a relapse. Your current streak restarts at that moment, while earlier stretches, your longest one included, stay in your statistics. There's room to note what you spent and what led to it, like a road trip or a night with nothing in the fridge. You don't need a relapse to write something down, either: a plain note, say about a craving you got past on the drive home, leaves the timer running.

Is Quitzilla free?

Yes. Download it on iPhone or Android and you can track two habits at no cost. Both get the timer, savings and rewards, the built-in goals, your reasons and the diary. Premium is an optional upgrade with unlimited habits, charts, home screen widgets, goals of your own and a custom color for every habit.
